Can You Use Prolotherapy Even After Surgery
Can someone get Prolotherapy after surgery if they have continued pain complaints?
Absolutely. Almost every day in the office I’m seeing clients who have had surgery. They haven’t seen the results they thought they would and we’re helping them get better with Prolotherapy.
Can You Use Prolotherapy Even After Surgery -Various Chiropractic Methods
Here’s a very good example, you have low back pain. You try some massage, you try some chiropractic methods.
Eventually you get an MRI and it shows a lot of degeneration in the discs and a lot of arthritis in the back. Then you get orthopedic surgery and for the most part the surgery goes well, but in a very short period of time, whether it’s six months, a year, two years, it’s like you are back to square one.
Typically that means that there is something else causing your pain and the something else is usually the sacroiliac joints and the sacroiliac ligaments. So, in that case, I would just explain that the surgeon did a good surgery, in the sense that they treated the abnormality on the MRI.
Can You Use Prolotherapy Even After Surgery- Sacroiliac Problem
Whether or not that was causing some of your pain I can’t say for sure, but what I can say is that currently, right now, you have a sacroiliac problem that needs Prolotherapy. Three to six visits of Prolotherapy injections to the sacroiliac ligaments, those ligaments get stronger, there’s more stability in the lower back. Typically this would then resolve the pain.
Even if someone has had a hip replacement or a knee replacement and then has continued pain afterwards, assuming that the joint replacement isn’t loose, occasionally we’ll order a bone scan to make sure that is not the problem. If a joint replacement is loose, the treatment is simply replacing the replacement.
Can You Use Prolotherapy Even After Surgery- What Cause If Continued Surgery?
However, if you have continued pain after a joint replacement surgery, it typically means that the structures around the replacement, the ligaments and tendons are causing the pain and those respond phenomenally to Prolotherapy.

Can Prolotherapy Help Shin Splints
Can Prolotherapy Help Shin Splints – Reason Why Runner Come To A Doctor Of Prolotherapy
A runner would come to a doctor for Prolotherapy because often physical therapy and exercise modification do not eliminate the shin splints. Shin splints specifically are pain originating in the shin where certain muscles attach. It is also called periostitis, meaning that the bone, where the muscles attach, is inflamed or irritated. Sometimes even if a runner stops running, tries physical therapy, and exercise modification but the pain doesn’t go away once they start running again.
Can Prolotherapy Help Shin Splints – Discover What Is Prolotherapy For
Prolotherapy specifically would strengthen the muscle attachment to the bone, whether it is the posterior tibialis muscles or some other muscle. Prolotherapy is very effective at getting a runner back quickly, so there are many reasons why a runner would consider getting Prolotherapy for shin splints. One is that the other treatments they are trying are not working. Two is they want to get back to running quicker.
Three is that Prolotherapy is very cost effective. Prolotherapy for the shin costs about the same as one session of physical therapy. In many respects Prolotherapy is a very cost effect treatment because generally you only need one or two visits, especially if the runner just has shin splints.
Can Prolotherapy Help Shin Splints – Why We Need To Consider Prolotherapy?
I would consider Prolotherapy one of the primary ways that a runner with shin splints should get treated, especially for a runner who gets Prolotherapy for shin splints typically has tried certain exercise modifications already. For instance, they receive Prolotherapy on a Monday then typically they could start exercising the next day.
There are cases, of course, where it is a very chronic case of shin splints and the runner has all other kinds of other medical conditions, health issues, and healing issues. Sometimes more than one visit of Prolotherapy is needed especially for more chronic cases where there is other things going on.
A runner can get Prolotherapy up to every couple of weeks if needed. Sometimes three, four, five visits are needed. So in that case, it may take two three months to get back to running. If a runner just decides initially that they have shin splints and they want to get Prolotherapy.

Why Does Prolotherapy Require Many Injections
Why Does Prolotherapy Require Many Injections- Find Out!
Why do you choose to use so many Prolotherapy injections at each visit? You have to realize that I was trained at, and eventually took over the practice of Gustav Hemwall and many people feel that at the time he was the world expert in Prolotherapy.
He simply had the most experience with Prolotherapy. He found that the best way to treat a joint or a structure was to give a lot of individual injections and he used a lot of different Prolotherapy solutions.
Let’s just think about it. Say you had an MRI, and it showed a rotator cuff tear but really your shoulder had bothered you for years. The likelihood that the only structure injured in your shoulder joint is just that one specific tendon tear is very doubtful. If you’ve had pain for many years it’s probable that it’s many structures that are injured within your shoulder. Most Prolotherapy doctors see chronic pain, people who have had the pain for years; they’ve seen many, many doctors. To say that there is one little area that is causing all this massive amount of pain is very naive.
Why Does Prolotherapy Require Many Injections -The Diffused Process
If someone has neck pain, back pain, or shoulder pain, when I typically see them it’s generally diffused. The person has a wide area that is painful. Even when you examine such an area, typically the person is tender all over. That means, to me, that it’s a diffused process. I choose to perform Prolotherapy, as other Hackett- Hemwall Prolotherapy doctors do, by giving a lot of individual shots, to make sure that all of the individual structures that are possibly causing the pain are covered.
Why Does Prolotherapy Require Many Injections -Treatments
As I often tell patients, I will treat you as I would want to be treated. If I had a shoulder problem, I would want a lot of Prolotherapysolution injected into my shoulder, I would want a lot of structures treated. Worst case scenario, if somebody over treated me; all that means is that my tendons, ligaments and structures are just going to be stronger than normal. As an athlete, which I am, that’s not a bad thing, that’s a good thing. For many reasons I prefer to give a lot of injections with a lot of Prolotherapy solution with every treatment.

Prolotherapy Solution
Prolotherapy Solution – What Prolotherapy Solutions Do We Use And Are The Solutions Natural?
At Caring Medical, in Oak Park, Illinois we definitely try to use natural solutions. The basic Prolotherapy solution that we use is dextrose and Sarapin. Those Prolotherapy ingredients are both plant extracts and have a very high safety profile.
Prolotherapy Solution – Natural Substances
As a matter of fact, I could inject those solutions into my veins right now and feel perfectly fine, so those solutions are very safe. Even when we add substances to that basic Prolotherapy solution we try to use natural substances. Some of the Prolotherapy ingredients that we use include various minerals, like manganese and zinc.
Prolotherapy Solution – Additional Subtances
We also could add sodium morrhuate, which is an extract of cod liver oil, to increase the inflammatory reaction or to increase the strength of the solution. Sometimes we’ll use other natural substances like glucosamine or human growth hormone. Of course, the solution that we use, how often we see the client, how much solution we use for Prolotherapy injections all depend on the individual case. Rest assured, we try to use as natural of substances as we can.

Prolotherapy injections To The Fingers
Welcome to Caring Medical. My name’s Ross Hauser, I’m the Medical Director here at Caring Medical in Oak Park, Illinois. I’ve been doing Prolotherapy since 1993 pretty much full time. I learned the technique from Dr. Hemwall who was instructed on the technique by the inventor of the term Prolotherapy, Dr. Hackett.
Prolotherapy injections To The Fingers -What Is Prolotherapy?
As you probably already know, Prolotherapy is an injection technique that stimulates the proliferation of cells to repair joints. It’s very helpful for anyone who has a hypermobile or loose joint as well as any type of ligament injury, tendon injury, or arthritis. We felt a couple of years ago that it would be helpful to videotape some of the procedures as they’re done here at Caring Medical.
You are about to view one of those videotapes. We hope that you find it very helpful and that it answers all your questions, but if you do have further questions, feel free to contact me at drhauser@caringmedical.com. We also have a lot of information on our website at www.caringmedical.com. Again, thank you for your interest in Prolotherapy.
Prolotherapy injections To The Fingers – Treatment For Finger Pain
This is the treatment of Hackett-Hemwall Prolotherapy for finger pain, hand pain. As you can see, right now I’m treating the metacarpal joints, the metacarpal ligaments on this patient. You can see on his ring finger and little finger there are deformities. This patient did a lot of work with his hands. Here I’m doing the proximal and distal inter phalange joints.
Treating on both sides and getting the collateral ligaments. Prolotherapy is very helpful at getting rid of hand pain especially finger pain and hand pain due to degenerative arthritis. This particular patient really responded well in other joints to Platelet Rich Plasma Prolotherapy, that’s called PRP. I’m going over several of this person’s joints with the platelet rich plasma also.
Prolotherapy injections To The Fingers – Platelet Rich Plasma Usual Treatment
Platelet Rich Plasma traditionally has been used for tendinopathy but it can also be used for joint problems and ligament problems. Obviously if someone responds well to it in one part of their body you can use it in other parts. That’s all there is to Prolotherapy of the fingers.

Prolotherapy Treatment
Any Prolotherapy doctor, like me, who treats athletes, is going to see a lot of runners. Runners notoriously get injured at one point or another in their career. The most common injury that we see in runners is related to the knee. The most common injury that you see in the knee is runner’s knee, or jumper’s knee, which is an injury to the patellar ligament or patellar tendon. The injury responds really well to Prolotherapy.
Prolotherapy Treatment – What Runners Could Get?
Runners can get any type of injury around the knee, especially to the meniscus. If a runner has swelling, it is most likely that the swelling is because they injured their meniscus. Meniscus injuries, whether it’s meniscus degeneration or a meniscus tear, respond very well to Prolotherapy treatment. Ligament injuries, ACL injuries, and chondromalacia patella respond amazingly to Prolotherapy injections. Often when runners have knee pain, the patella isn’t tracking correctly. The patella is supposed to track in a groove in the femur, but when the patella is out to the side and it tracks poorly, that’s called patellofemoral tracking syndrome or patellofemoral pain syndrome. When this problem causes cartilage deterioration it’s called chondromalacia patella. Just as a side note, anyone who has had knee surgery or knee arthroscopy, look on your arthroscopy report, you’ll be shocked to see that it says chondromalacia patella. Ninety plus percent of arthroscopy reports that I’ve seen, the doctor saw that your cartilage was deteriorating. I believe the best treatment for cartilage deterioration is Prolotherapy. I’m confident that long term studies, X-rays, and MRI’s are going to show that Prolotherapy treatments are the best treatment to regenerate cartilage in an athlete. Anyone with chondromalacia patella should get Prolotherapy.
It’s very common for runners or athletes that are involved in running sports to call us because they have a foot problem. The most common foot problem that we see is either ligament injury around the ankle, that’s the most common ligament injury, when you sprain your ankle. Often ligament injuries don’t heal, about half of ankle sprains, give or take ten percent, don’t actually heal completely. You might get pain free, but now all of a sudden you have excessive joint mobility. That excessive joint mobility makes it more likely for you to get an ankle sprain in the future. If the ligament healed completely, it wouldn’t have an increased rate of getting a second ankle sprain.
Prolotherapy Treatment- Why Injuries Always Occur?
Why sports injuries often occur again and again on athletes is because the tissue wasn’t completely healed. Why the tissue wasn’t completely healed? Because the athlete did RICE and anti-inflammatories. Your ankle hurts and you want to run tomorrow so you take an anti-inflammatory. You’d be amazed at how often we hear that athletes before they play tennis, or whatever, because their body hurts they take an anti-inflammatory. I mean, your body is hurting for a reason; your body is hurting because some tissue is injured. The treatment should be to get the tissue healed. If you continue to play athletics on an injured joint, even if you can’t feel it because you’re taking an anti-inflammatory. It’s going to lead to further injury, further treatments, more invasive treatments. Is a joint replacement really what you want as an athlete?
Another common foot injury that we see is runners is Plantar Fasciitis. But, let me say one thing from the get-go, most cases of Plantar Fasciitis are not true Plantar Fasciitis. In other words, it’s not an inflamed Plantar Fascia, you can touch the Plantar Fascia, it’s not hot, and it’s not enflamed. It’s a degenerated Plantar Fascia. Right from the get-go, it’s not Plantar Fasciitis, so it doesn’t make sense to be injecting steroids in there which is just going to further degenerate the Plantar Fascia. What a degenerated Plantar Fascia needs is Prolotherapy. Prolotherapy stimulates the regeneration of the degenerated Plantar Fascia. Generally after one, two, three, four visits, the runner is back to running. The good thing as it relates to sports and Prolotherapy is that Prolotherapy doesn’t interfere with the training of the athlete. So, you can train while you get Prolotherapy.
Prolotherapy Treatment – Common Injury We See For Runners
A common injury that we see in runners, especially runners with foot problems, is pain in the heel. Most of the time they’ve had the boot, they did various stretches, but their Plantar Fascia still hurts a lot. Unfortunately, many of them come having already received a cortisone shot and cortisone shots just degenerate the Plantar Fascia further. If an athlete has had pain in a body part for more than a few months, I’m telling you, it’s a degenerated structure. A degenerated structure needs regeneration. The treatment of regenerating a structure is called Prolotherapy. Prolotherapy involves the proliferation of cells. Say this is the heel (holds up fist) and you have the plantar fascia that attaches to it. What that degenerated Plantar Fascia needs is Prolotherapy, you need it regenerated.
Now, when the degenerated Plantar Fascia continues over time the body, to strengthen that attachment where the Plantar Fascia attaches, will overgrow a bone. The overgrowth of one on the Plantar Fascia is what is known as a bone spur. I’ve got a bone spur on my heel, can Prolotherapy help? Well, yes Prolotherapy can help because the body is trying to Prolotherapy itself. But, it’s not doing it, you’re still having pain. We would just speed the process along. An athlete should think about Prolotherapy as hyperdriving the injury to heal quicker. Do you want the injury healed quickly? Well, then get Prolotherapy. Prolotherapy can stimulate the healing many, many times. Also what athletes don’t realize is often when you get a degenerated Plantar Fascia, the ligament support of the arch is also a problem.
Prolotherapy can also help the ligament support of the foot arch. There’s a very important ligament that supports the ligament on the bottom of the foot and that’s called the spring ligament. When I see someone with Plantar Fascia problems or foot problems, one of the structures that I’ll evaluate is the spring ligament and often they need to get Prolotherapy in their spring ligament which will help repair that area. Then the arch support is much greater. Once they get the degenerated Plantar Fascia repaired with Prolotherapy their foot pain is gone and they’re back to running.

Prolotherapy Results In Athletes
Prolotherapy Results In Athletes – What Should Someone Do If You Know They Received Prolotherapy and It Didn’t Work?
What should someone do if you know they received Prolotherapy and it didn’t work? Sometimes someone will go to a Prolotherapy doctor, they are a good candidate, and it just didn’t work. So, I’m just going to give you a few reasons of why it may not work. The most common that we see when we actually talk to athletes, and I see a lot of patients and athletes who have seen other Prolotherapy doctors and the most common reason they don’t heal is because they do not get enough Prolotherapy done to them. In other words, they didn’t have enough solution injected into the area or they didn’t get enough injections.
Prolotherapy Results In Athletes – When Prolotherapy Work?
I was trained by Dr. Hemwall who learned Prolotherapy from Dr. Hackett who was the inventor of Prolotherapy. He coined the term Prolotherapy. Just as a reminder, Prolotherapy means the rehabilitation of an incompetent structure such as a ligament or tendon by the induced proliferation of cells. Prolotherapy is only going to work if after the Prolotherapy is done the joint is stable. MRIs are notorious for being inaccurate. The accuracy, if you actually look at the accuracy of MRIs, is actually between fifty and sixty five percent. That’s not Dr. Hauser’s opinion. That’s the opinion of science. What it means is that MRIs are notorious for having a high false positive rate. That means that the MRI shows that you have a tendon torn, a ligament torn, or a meniscus torn but when you go for your arthroscopy it’s not actually torn. MRIs also have a high false positive rate the older you are or younger you are. This means that if you are over the age of sixty, or under the age of twenty, basically the younger you are, the higher the false positive rate is on MRI. So, why is that? Old folks have meniscus degeneration. That might show a meniscus tear when all it is is meniscus degeneration. So, that gives a high false positive rate. In other words, the meniscus degeneration is not doing anything. It is just something that happens normally with aging. So, that’s why there is a high false positive rate for older folks. Younger folks, you know especially around 13, 14, 15 years old, their meniscus is still developing. You’re still going through puberty. So, obviously your whole body is changing. As your meniscus changes with as you go through puberty, the MRI signal changes. So, you get a lot of false positives. In other words, you’re concerned because your knee hurts. So, you do an MRI and it shows a meniscal tear. Then when the surgeon goes in there, there isn’t even a meniscus tear because it is a false positive. Which means the older you are or the younger you are be sure to get a second opinion because it’s probably a false MRI result. You need to go to a Prolotherapy physician because you probably don’t need surgery.
MRIs are also notorious for having a false negative rate, which means that the doctor goes and examines something and it seems like something is torn. The doctor knows just from the physical exam that it seems like something is torn, like a tendon is torn, a ligament is torn, or a meniscus is torn. But MRIs are notorious for showing a false negative. It means that the MRI says that there is nothing torn when clearly there is something torn because you can just jiggle the joint it’s just moving all over the place. So, the diagnostic accuracies, from my stand point, is not very good as far as MRIs. I’m not a big proponent of MRIs Dr. Hauser does order MRIs, but it is very very rare.
Prolotherapy Results In Athletes – Confer To Your Prolotherapy Doctor
I think we need to get back to some low tech kind of medicine in the sense of what’s hurting you. Take a really good history, especially if it’s an athlete. You know exactly where it hurts, do a physical exam, and this is what’s most likely wrong. If it is not a complete tear, you’re a good candidate for Prolotherapy. Then talk to a Prolotherapy doctor like myself about how many visits are likely needed, how quickly can we do them to get back in the game quicker. So, we at Caring Medical will sometimes speed the process up and treat somebody every week or every two weeks, especially if like there is a big game coming up, or the season is starting, or there is a training camp that they have to get to. You know we have anywhere from world champions here, to Olympic athletes, to preOlympic athletes, to high school athletes wanting to get collage scholarships, to t-ball players. I understand being an athlete. I’m a five time Ironman competitor. I have completed five Ironmans, some ultra marathon, and some endurance swims. So, I understand what it is like to be an athlete. The one thing an athlete doesn’t want to do is stop their athletics. So, I can tell you definitely, as a patient of Prolotherapy and as a doctor of Prolotherapy, that Prolotherapy can get you in the game and keep you in the game faster. You want to get back to your sport quickly? The treatment you need to get is Prolotherapy.

Prolotherapy Research
Prolotherapy Research – What About Current Research Studies and a Double Blind Study On Prolotheraoy?
Well fortunately, technology is getting to the point we can now intendence of before prolotherapy and after prolotherapy by ultrasound. If you actually research prolotherapy in year 2008, you’ll see that now starting to prove what prolotherapy has been staying all along. That prolotherapy regenerates ligaments and tendons because now they can buy ultrasound and they can show that the needle in dextros is in tendon, you can inject it. Two months later, 6 months later or a year they can ultrasound the tendon again and the tendon are stronger, thicker and function better. The nice thing about technology is starting to prove with prolotherapy to set all and cures pain by regenerating degenerated structures that reinjured.
Prolotherapy Research - Why Are More Double Blinded Studies Done On Prolotherapy?
Why are more double blinded studies done on prolotherapy? Well to be honest with you there’s very few double blinded studies on surgery the reason is you can’t double blind it because if you stick a needle and do a area of the body that’s called acupuncture.
Prolotherapy Research – Injecting Plasivo
Even if you’re not injecting anything or just the plasivo, you have the biological effect so means that you’re on the healing effect.
Well the reason being blind it is just 30% response or 50% to 60% responds. If you research such a study you’ll see that when they inject to the biological agent 75/80% have a good response.

Prolotherapy for Athletes with Hip, Pelvic or Groin Pain
Prolotherapy for Athletes -Sports Which Involve Stopping and Starting
There are many sports that involve stopping and starting whether it is football, soccer, lacrosse, field hockey, or tennis. There are lots of sports that involve sudden shifts in direction stopping and starting and with those come various groin injuries and groin pain. Athletes with groin pain typically have one of two things wrong with them. They either have an injury to the pubic symphysis or the pubis or they have an injury to the hip.
I would really recommend if a person in one of those sports or an athlete in another sport who had hip and/or groin or inguinal pain that they get assessment by a doctor who does Prolotherapy. It is actually very easy to distinguish the two, typically people who have a pubic symphysis problem just have pain over the pubic symphysis. So the doctor just needs to evaluate the pubic symphysis and if there is tenderness right on the pubis then you know that that’s the problem. Athletes don’t often realize that there is a lot of structures that attach to the pubis. There are eight different types of tendons, muscles that attach to the pubis. There are various ligaments superior pubic ligament attaches there, and the pubis itself is a disc. The pubic symphysis is a disc, so that disc itself can get disrupted. When your pubic symphysis is loose and I will just show an illustration. This is the pubic symphysis (holds up a pelvic model). So you see the disc here the pubic symphysis disc. There are all kinds of tendons and muscles that attach on to the pubis like your abdominal muscles all of your abdominal muscles attach to the pubis. It is very common to have lower abdominal pain with a pubic symphysis injury.
Prolotherapy for Athletes – A Great For Public Symphysis Injuries
Prolotherapy is great for pubic symphysis injuries, at least a 90% success rate for the athlete to get back to their athletics. Now if a person is not tender over the pubic symphysis then the doctor of coarse would evaluate the hip. The kind of hip injuries that a Prolotherapy physician sees is typically one of two types. They have a labral tear or they have a hip joint instability because one of several ligaments of the hip is injured. The doctor can often tell that just by a physical exam, but patients often know it. If you move your leg and move your hip and you notice that the hip joint is clicking then you have joint instability. Joint instability is treated by Prolotherapy and I would say the best choice for an athlete who is in a running sport is Prolotherapy.
Hip joint instability either means that you have a ligament injury or a hip labral injury. Now incomplete hip ligament injuries which is most of the ligament injuries in the hip you cannot do surgery for so you have to use conservative care. The best conservative care that is going to get the athletes to the playing field the quickness is going to be Prolotherapy. If you have clicking in your hip and is affecting your performance in your sport, you should definitely see a Prolotherapy doctor. If you have a hip labral tear you can get surgery and you can get Prolotherapy for it. Yes, obviously I have a bias and would recommend Prolotherapy because when I see arthroscopy reports on athletes, especially young athletes, almost all the time whether it is a meniscus tear or a hip labral tear, the arthroscopy report showed that the doctor, the orthopedic surgeon removed some of the labrum or some of the meniscus. The short term solution is great if you remove the injured part you don’t have clicking, popping the pain goes away but, long term the results are terrible because you are going to end up with progressive or aggressive arthritis. This means that you have now made the hip joint unstable long term by removing some of the tissue that stabilizes the hip or stabilized the knee.
Prolotherapy for Athletes – The Knee Joint
The knee joint needs the meniscus and the hip needs the labrum. You need the labrum to protect the joint and stabilize the joint so, when an athlete runs the hip ball and sockets stay in place. Without the labrum there the joint is not as stable so, what happens is then there is excessive motion in the joint. This deteriorates the articular cartilage and the athlete then ends up with arthritis. That may not worry you now but, as a doctor I feel like I have an obligation to use short term and long term. Short term to help you get back to you sport right now, but I have a long term obligation that you are going to play this sport for life. If you want to play this sport for life, you better get Prolotherapy as an alternative to arthroscopy or orthopedic surgery. I am telling you unless you have a complete ligament tear, if you get an arthroscopy or orthopedic surgery instead of Prolotherapy, it is going to significantly decrease you chances of being able to play this sport for life. I am telling you that as a fact.

Is Prolotherapy Good for People of Any Age and Weight?
Is Prolotherapy Appropriate For All Ages?
Is Prolotherapy appropriate for all ages?Absolutely! In the office, here in Oak Park, we have treated youngsters as young as the age of four, and we commonly treat ten year olds, eight year olds, twelve year olds, and other adolescents who have shoulder subluxation, unstable joints or painful conditions. We have treated people as old as 99 and they have done fine. When it comes to a patient’s weight, it isn’t necessarily an issue. I have treated people that weighed close to five hundred pounds and they’ve had fantastic Prolotherapy results.
What Prolotherapy Does?
If Prolotherapy does what I say and what other Prolotherapy doctors say it does: that it regenerates tissue, that the injured tissue can be repaired and that tissue can be stimulated to become stronger and thicker. Then it wouldn’t matter what age a person was or what weight they were, it would be successful. Now it may be that someone who weighs five hundred pounds verses somebody who weighs a hundred and fifty pounds and they both have Prolotherapy to the knee.
Prolotherapy- What If Person Weighs 500 pounds?
For the person that weighs five hundred pounds it may take a few extra treatments. Or if somebody’s in there nineties, verses in there twenties, the ninety year-old we may have to use a stronger Prolotherapy solution, or treat them more frequently, or maybe they need more treatments than normal. But overall, they should heal great with Prolotherapy treatment. For more info, feel free to visit the link (Prolotherapy).
